Psychotherapy Basics for People-Oriented Managers

Throughout my life, I have always been drawn toward people-management roles. From camp counsellor to O-week leader, it did not take long until I was promoted to management in my corporate life. I managed small sales teams when I worked in tech and, when I began studying psychotherapy, I instantly noticed how psychotherapy skills would have benefitted me as a manager. Thus, this workshop was born.

This discussion-based workshop is best for groups of 6 to 12 people in mid-level management and runs for 3 hours. The workshop integrates basic psychotherapy skills with therapeutic interventions from Gottman Method Couples Therapy and Internal Family Systems to help managers become people-oriented rather than task-oriented.

In this unique management workshop, participants will:

  • Explore the characteristics of impactful managers;

  • Learn ways to build relationships with managees through core psychotherapy skills;

  • Discover ways to manage as a calm, confident,  and compassionate version of yourself; and

  • Learn how to support a managee who is struggling with their mental health.

“Rachel did an amazing job connecting with the team right from the start and making it a safe space for everyone to be vulnerable and share openly. Everyone had an aha moment throughout and there were principles and ideas that we still refer to in management meetings today. I would highly recommend this session for all people managers!”
